The service I work for just picked up 5 brand new ambulances. Before we got the newer Chevy Econoline ambulances, we had a slightly bigger one from a different make. The other make was a bit slower and handled roughly. There was also more mechanical problems with the other vans. We think it was worth the switch.
The engine has less mechanical problems then we have had in the past with our other vans. It`s a smoother ride with better handling because of it`s longer wheel base. It also tends to be quieter which makes the job we do easier. It also seems to be a lot faster.
The cockpit is nice because you sit at the steering wheel more comfortably. It has great visibility because of how the seats are placed. And as an added plus for a bigger person, the cabin is a larger fit. The controls are better placed because of the extra room.
Between the power, speed, and handling the Chevy Econoline ambulances are well received. There were a few bugs in the system, mostly with the computer system, when we first got them but 13,000 miles later they are still going strong. We all agree that switching was a good move for both the crew and the ones who need us. |
